Language and culture tour

The french chanson

The chanson française is the designation for the most popular style of the French art of singing. 'Chansons' are often poetic songs, accompanied on an accordion. They exist in traditional and more modern forms. The city of Paris is inextricably linked to the French chanson and has always been a magical place and a great inspiration. Many 'chansonnières' and 'chansonniers' came to Paris and have known great moments. The city is sung in many of their songs. Just think of Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Maurice Chevalier or Charles Aznavour. "If we walk by the streets and alleys of Paris, we hear the Chanson française everywhere".

During the language and culture tour 'la chanson française' we'll discover different elements of the French 'chanson'. Together with a guide we go out and find all the places and persons who have put the French chanson worldwide on the map.

We bring a visit to Belleville, the neighbourhood where Edith Piaf grew up.

Let's look at Montmartre with its famous Place Dalida and of course the Lapin Agile, the theatre where Jacques Brel and George Brassens have done their first appearances. We'll visit Père la Chaise, the Parisian cemetery where many famous musicians are buried.
